Don't go underwater, or you'll be sorry August 29, 2010 ben l (San Diego, CA) NOT water resistant at all.
WATER LEAKS IN THE SHALLOWEST OF ENVIRONMENTS. Don't buy this watch if you have ANY intention of getting any wetter than you would at an office cocktail party.
I've had the eco-drive watch for about one year or so, and during that time, it's been a pretty great watch. It runs well. Light is an issue if you spend a lot time in dimly-lit opium dens, and you must not live a nocturnal lifestyle like Eric Northman, or the watch will run slow -until your planet's yellow sun returns the watch to full power (which happens fairly rapidly).
However, the part where citizen claims it's "WR 50m" is not true at all.
I left my watch on with me today surfing (usually I take it off). I thought, "you know 50 meters is pretty friggin deep, this baby must be air-tight." Negatory.
I don't think I was ever more than a few feet underwater (surfing in 4-10 foot deep water), and the inside of my watch is filled with water. It's still working for the time being. Additionally, while waiting for it to dry-out, you can also admire that it's not as bulky as it initially seems, you know, once you're used to wearing it and everything.
But deep scarlet-letter variety shame on citizen for making its water resistant claim; it just ain't so. It's complete nonsense; they might as well claim it cures bone cancer or something; it'd be just as true as "WR 50." So not cool.
Remarkable timepiece that stands out from the rest. August 16, 2010 AL I had never saw the timepiece in person, but I was easily convinced that it was a remarkable looking one just from the hi-res pictures from a Google search.
If you're wondering about the heritage of the watch, check out this awesome site that discusses all the different versions of the Nighthawk that are out there: [...]
Pros:
-Remarkable looking timepiece. It's a flight watch, so it is bound to be busy looking in the dial. However, the layout of the intricate details is done impeccably such that each detail fits in place.
-The illuminated hands and markers really do shine in the dark, a lot more than my other timepieces that cost more.
-Bracelet is a brushed steel (i.e., not shiny), which means it shouldn't appear scratched as easily as the polished bracelets.
-Haven't seen another flight watch that looks better than it (Invicta makes a nearly identical one...I'm pretty sure Citizen had the design first).
-Heavy watch (not necessarily a good thing, but confirms that it is indeed stainless steel)
-Eco-Drive technology (supposedly, that means you never have to replace the battery; I'm pretty sure the battery will eventually need to be replaced, not because it's out of juice, but because no battery lasts forever).
Cons:
-Crystal is mineral, not sapphire. Then again, I don't think you can find a timepiece at this price point that offers sapphire crystal. It seems that all Citizens only come in mineral, which is disappointing, since Citizen is a renowned enough company that they should be willing to offer sapphire in their products.
-The clasp scratches very very easily.
Beautiful August 10, 2010 Kris This is my first ecodrive, and I have to say I just can't get enough of it. It's an absolutely beautiful watch. Superbly crafted and at a great price.
Great watch. July 22, 2010 MacMaster (Washington, DC) I have tissots and tag heurs but this watch as good as a swiss watch. I like the eco drive its so neat. You can find it cheaper on other websites but don't know about their warranties
Eco Drive Nighthawk July 10, 2010 M. Warner A great watch for under $300. The fact that once you charge this watch you won't have to ever worry about it again. It can sit for months without being worn and it still retains time and charge. Just 15 min of wear in bright sunlight will bring the watch to full charge allowing it to sit in the dark for months... Unlike other auto-wind watches that I have which only last for a day or two without wearing them and having to reset the time. Never have to worry about this one. Great solar technology!
