5 out of 5 stars This Is Only My Opinion   August 31, 2010
B. Alexander (Crofton, MD United States)
This Citizen BM6400-00E watch is absolutely fantastic. I've been wearing it every day for about a month now. Very comfortable and light on the wrist, easy to read face, glows in the dark, date tracker, easy to adjust, Eco-Drive, sharp looking stainless steel trim, and all at a great price at just over $100.

Minor cons have been mentioned in other reviews, mainly that the widely spaced, metal rivet holes will not allow the strap to fit perfectly for everyone, could be a little tight or loose for you. To deal with the smell after you wrist sweats through the canvas strap, just rub with alcohol or spray with some Lysol every few days.

This watch is one of the highest quality products that I have purchased in years. I like it so much that I'm considering buying the similar Citizen military-style model with the all black face, and the 3 - 6 - 9 - 12 showing on the dial.

2 out of 5 stars Not very durable   July 26, 2010

I bought this watch back in January based on company reputation and the look of the watch. Everything about it seemed perfect until it slipped off my wrist while taking it off in my bathroom and it fell face down on a tile floor. This watch is not as durable as it seems. The glass shattered and the repair cost with parts, labor and shipping was more than the price I paid for the watch. Sure the watch was brought back to original shape but you would think a company like Citizen would make a more durable watch. I've dropped many watches on the floor before and they were not shattered like this one did. Recently, it landed on the ground again, the fall was softened by a show but now the short hand is off its center. I'm very disappointed at how fragile this watch has turned out to be.

4 out of 5 stars Nice, simple, and easy to read numbers but it's not a beater   July 24, 2010

I actually purchased this watch after reading all the good reviews on Amazon and other sites.

Over all the watch is really nice, it has a simple face, big numbers, 200 meter water resistant, it's solar (no batteries to replace)and it has great lume. All in all, for the price, it is a very good watch.

But like all things in life, nothing is 100 % perfect and this watch is no exception :

1- The date window is rather small, but heck..I can live with that, just thought I should mention it since for some people this could be a problem.

2- Perhaps my biggest turn-off is the glass, I have worn the watch about 10 to 15 times since I received it and so far there are 2 dings on the outer edge of the glass (the biggest and ugliest one, happened this morning). I own about 14 or 15 watches, from Timex all the way up to Cartier, and in all my years I have never dinged the border of any of my watches. It seems that in this watch the glass rises above the outer ring, so there is no protection to the edge of the mineral glass. I mean I'm no watch expert or a design engineer so I can't say that this is a design flaw or anything similar, but this does pose a problem in the sense that you have to be careful not to wear the watch while doing certain chores.

All in all I can't consider this watch rugged enough to be used as a beater...yes, because of the class issue.

Now, if you are looking for a watch to wear on weekends or perhaps something informal and if you like the military look, then this is a very good watch, just be extra careful where you stick your watch hand and make sure you keep your wrist away from walls.

Do I regret buying it...heck no, I still like the watch, just need to be a bit more conscious of my wrist while wearing it.

Update-30/07/2010 :

I guess my review was an anticipation of things to come.

Yesterday when I got home from work and entered my bedroom, I found my watch face down on the floor; my heart stopped beating, I began to get a cold shill down my spine, my vision got fuzzy...I couldn't find a way of lifting the watch of the floor because I was afraid of what I would find...so I just sat on my bed for a few moments and remembered how happy I was when I put this watch on my wrist for the first time, how shinny and new it looked. I guess deep down I still had a little hope that nothing happened to the watch, so I got up very slowly from the bed and picked up the watch, still facing down; then the moment of truth, I held my breath and turned it over...I almost fainted, the glass had a big crack running across.

I leave my citizen watches on my bed-stand most of the times, this way the light that comes into the room, during the day, keeps the watches charged. I imagine that my cats, my wife loves cats and we have 4, must have been frolicking inside the bedroom and one of them must have knocked down the watch.

Anyway, my watch is inside my watch drawer until I decide what I will do with it. Maybe get a replacement glass, if the cost is worth it.

The weird part is that I really do like this watch, but I really don't know if I will order it again, at least not this version.

The Japanese version of this watch has a sapphire crystal, If I can find that version online then I will definitely order it.

In the meantime, I'll just keep staring at my cracked citizen watch and think of things that could have been but where not.

4 out of 5 stars Great watch, average date function, sucky band   April 29, 2010

Watch - 5 stars. Really sharp looking in person. I love being able to see what time it is first thing in the a.m. and it keeps great time. Only thing is I'm now I catch myself holding my arm at wierd angles so it charges on available light or sunlight beams.

Date - 4 stars. Why make such big numbers/hands and then stick in such a painfully small date window? They should use the one from the BM8180-03E. If the date's important to you, get a different watch.

Band - 3 stars. Agree with many that it sux after wearing it for a couple weeks. Gromets on the strap (vice holes) mean fewer size options; I'm between sizes - either too tight or too loose. The big steel keeper (or whatever you call it) for the band is in the way. I already ordered a tropic-style italian rubber watch band to replace it, which - by the way - was also a hassle because the band width for this is 21mm wide. Most bands this style are 20mm or 22mm.

So, it gets 4 stars overall. Not in love, but best friends maybe. And if it makes Al Gore happy, I'm happy.

5 out of 5 stars Style, Simplicity and Function   March 20, 2010

I do love this watch. It keeps excellent time and never needs to be wound since it's an Eco-Drive. (I've had another Eco-Drive Citizen for over 10 years and it hasn't stopped once and keeps good time.) Mostly, I love the look of this watch. It's simple and functional. Easy to read large numerals without looking like an old lady's watch. Very retro chic, I think, and better looking than anything Seiko has in their comparable Kinetic line. (I actually like the photoelectric Citizen over the motion movement of the Seiko since I can keep the watch charged when not wearing it by storing it somewhere in a lighted place. I've never owned one of the Seiko's though, so this is not a completely informed opinion.)The band is cool and comfortable, too, with hip oversize metal grommets around the holes. Two small issues: one is personal and the other is objective. First, this is a large faced watch and since I have small hands and wrists, it can feel a little big on me. For "normal" sized men, this won't be a problem. Second, the date window and numeral are a bit small and difficult to read for my old(er) eyes. Nevertheless, this is a very functional and stylish watch that does what a watch is supposed to do - it tells you what time it is. It's reasonably priced, too. I'd say if you like its looks, buy it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
